THMA Chairman Mark O’Reilly onboard the ESVAGT FROUDE – Siemens new SOV Wind Support Vessel in Grimsby
Great tour today at the Port of Grimsby onboard the excellent ESVAGT FROUDE Siemens new Service Operation Vessel (SOV). The vessel designed and built in Norway by Havyard Ship Technology has a crew capacity of 60 and comes complete with 2 transfer boats, 1 fast rescue boat, an Ampelmann A-type gangway and two Cinema rooms plus a fitness Room.
The vessel will be operating from the port for the next 3-4 months on the Westermost Rough Offshore Wind farm. I expect to see more of these vessels operating out of the Humber in the coming years supporting Round 3 wind farm projects.
Good to see local companies involved including Windpower Support and Harris & Garrod.
Interesting fact – William Froude (1810-1879) was an English engineer, hydrodynamicist and naval architect. He was a personal friend of the Siemens brothers.
