STATEMENT FROM TEAM HUMBER MARINE ALLIANCE – Dec, 2011
Mark O’Reilly, director Team Humber Marine Alliance, said: “This is fantastic news for everyone in the region, its people and businesses, as it will truly kick-start the renewables revolution in the Humber.
“If the plans for the new factory site are given the go ahead it will not only provide hundreds of new jobs, but, potentially, thousands of spin-off jobs directly associated with the site, and the Round 2 and 3 wind farm developments.
“Although it is still subject to approval, we expect the application to stimulate interest in all the other Enterprise Zone sites in the Humber region. Not just Green Port Hull, but in the smaller sites in Hull and Paull, as well as Brough, Grimsby and North Lincs.
“In one fell swoop, these sites are already much more attractive to businesses looking to work in the sector in the Humber region and will undoubtedly start the ball rolling for further developments.
“As a membership organisation we have been working hard behind the scenes with all the leading stakeholders to raise the profile of the region as a renewable centre of excellence to a national and international audience. The government’s recent decision to name the Humber as a national Centre for Offshore Renewable Engineering (CORE) is a testament to these ongoing efforts.
“This is something that we will continue to do in the coming weeks, months and years, to help further develop a genuinely excellent supply chain offering from our member companies.
“These Team Humber members, including ABP, are ready to support the rollout of the wind farms along all parts of the supply chain – from materials supply and fabrication, to port and portside services, to operation and maintenance, electrical and mechanical services, vessel operation and maintenance, turbine access and safety, lifting and handling, and logistics.
“As well as ABP, our membership of more than 140 companies includes many who will be able to assist the deployment and operation and maintenance of 5,000 wind turbines in the Dogger Bank, Hornsea and Norfolk wind farms.
ABB, Abnormal Load Services, Danbrit Shipping, Peter Hird, HOTA, Humber Work Boats, MTL Group, Mullion Survival Technology, Point Engineering, SMS Towage, Survitec, Tata Steel, Towne Lifting and Testing and Wind Power Support. Just a few of the names. But eachtheir own expertise related to aspects of offshore wind farm supply chain, and all in the Humber region.
“We are also looking to develop sub-groups focusing on specific requirements of the industry and our initial spotlight on Operations and Maintenance has proved to be very rewarding for the companies involved.
“As Team Humber works in a collaborative way, all of our members are used to working closely together to realise successful completion of large projects that are the beyond the reach of one smaller company.”
