Our flagship offshore wind event eyes next chapter

Humber Marine & Renewables’ Offshore Wind Connections 2024 conference has been launched as we look to the future of the sector and its potential contribution to net zero.

Now in its 11th year, OWC2024, which will be held on May 1 and 2 at Hull’s DoubleTree by Hilton, is focusing on maximising the huge potential for offshore wind in the Humber and Yorkshire over the next decade.

The leading conference will attract hundreds to its exhibition, networking and speakers, with many staying on as finalists and guests at the Humber Renewables Awards which will take place in the same venue on the evening of May 2. It is the second year that OWC has partnered with the high-profile awards which celebrate the people and companies making an impact in the region’s wider renewables industry.

With headline sponsorship from RWE, OWC2024 will see the industry’s major players and supply chain companies exploring the role of offshore wind in meeting the UK’s low carbon targets, and how the region can collaborate to gain greater and sustained market share. Topics will also include devolution, freeports and skills along with technical advancements.

Iain Butterworth, chair of Humber Marine & Renewables, said: “Following the massive success of OWC’s 10thanniversary celebration, we are now focused firmly on the future of this vibrant sector. It is vitally important that the industry comes together to share new developments and ideas for the region to maintain its stature, fully realise its potential and make a significant contribution to net zero.

“Connecting our two-day flagship conference with the well-established Humber Renewables Awards and gala dinner, makes it the industry event of the year.”

Corrine Barry, RWE’s East Coast Director, Net Zero, said: “RWE is elated to be sponsoring OWC2024. Sponsorship of this pivotal event not only emphasises our commitment to the local region, but also highlights the broader significance of fostering collaboration and innovation.

“By investing in initiatives that bring people together, we aim to cultivate a vibrant, interconnected landscape that propels both local growth and the sector-wide advancements in offshore wind.”

Kicking off on the evening of May 1 with opening speeches from high-profile guest speakers and the popular RenewableUK Connect event, delegates will have access to some of the most influential people and companies working in offshore wind. Day two will continue with speakers, presentations and networking, leading into the Humber Renewables Awards.

The headline sponsor is RWE. Other sponsors to date are Orsted which has taken platinum, Associated British Ports, Andrew Jackson Solicitors, Aquila, Butterworth Marine, MMS Ship Repairs and Pentagon Marine which have all taken gold, and RSM sponsoring the networking drinks. More details and the line-up of speakers will be published on the OWC website over the coming weeks.
