“There’s never been a more exciting time.” That’s the message from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, global market leader in offshore wind and headline sponsor of Offshore Wind Connections.
Organised by Team Humber Marine Alliance, OWC 2021 will take place virtually on April 21 and 22 during a period of renewed energy in the Humber region around the offshore wind industry.
Clark MacFarlane, UK managing director of Siemens Gamesa, said that the conference provided a timely platform for the industry to discuss the opportunities generated by recent developments including government funding, the award of freeport status, industry investment and new jobs in the area.
“Siemens Gamesa has shown real resilience during the pandemic and Brexit. With recent announcements driving the UK Wind Industry forward and potential further investment on the horizon, there’s never been a more exciting time to be working in the sector. OWC 2021 will bring a likeminded and ambitious community together at this pivotal time.”
Mr MacFarlane, who will also speak at the conference, added: “This is a huge year for offshore wind. With a potential of up to 12GW of new renewables projects available in the Contracts for Difference Round Four (CfD4) auction later this year, now is the time to maximise the economic and climate potential of renewables.
“We also welcome the renewed growth of onshore wind power and support for innovative technologies such as floating wind at a time of accelerated offshore growth. It really feels like we are unlocking the untapped potential of renewables and the Humber is set to be at the forefront of it all, powering the UK’s energy future.”
Platinum sponsors of OWC 2021 are Ørsted, Associated British Ports and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm have taken the silver sponsorship. All have been longstanding supporters of the conference which attracts delegates from the UK, Europe and globally.
Chair of Team Humber Marine Alliance Andrew Oliver said that support for OWC 2021 reflected the positivity around offshore wind in the Humber and globally. “Despite ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the momentum continues to gather in the sector. We have attracted high-profile sponsors and a stellar cast of speakers demonstrating the aspirations and appetite by the industry to have the Humber regional cluster at the helm.
“We’ll be digging out the supply chain opportunities and helping the sector to meet its target for local content and diversity, but with an eye on the global market in which the UK can shine.”
For this year’s OWC, Team Humber Marine Alliance has partnered with Aura to access their innovative new 3D platform where delegates can create an avatar, network and watch industry presentations. The Aura Innovation Centre (AIC), which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and led by the University of Hull, is opening the doors to its digital twin enabling delegates to experience the building virtually in real time.
Further support for OWC 2021 is being given by the Department for International Trade, RenewableUK, Maritime UK, Subsea UK, Grimsby Renewables Partnership, the Workboats Association and The Supply Chain Network.
More than 30 speakers have been lined up and presentations will be streamed via the conference platform.
