Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm joins THMA
Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm, the state-of-the-art renewables project located off the Lincolnshire coast, has become the latest member to join Team Humber.
Citing the potential for greater engagement with the Humber business sector, along with access to skills development initiatives, the project expects that Team Humber Marine Alliance will further strengthen its already significant presence in the region.
Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm began full construction in Autumn 2018 to build its onshore electrical infrastructure and substation in Lincolnshire, with lead contractors Siemens Transmission and Distribution, and J Murphy & Sons Ltd. Construction of the offshore array is due to begin in early 2020, with completion expected in 2021.
The project recently began construction of its offshore construction and operations and maintenance base in Grimsby, further boosting the town’s credentials as a leading O&M cluster. It expects to directly employ a team of over 70 long-term from the new base, while also engaging a range of support services throughout its operation.
Julian Garnsey, project director for Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm and innogy, said it was essential that the project maximised its potential for working with local businesses and played a part in helping develop the region’s skills for the future.
He said: “We want to bring the benefits of Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm to the region and put local suppliers at the heart of this development.
“Joining Team Humber Marine Alliance will assist us in achieving this due to its specialist membership with expertise in offshore wind and the organisation’s high-profile activity in promoting the sector.”
Triton Knoll’s majority shareholder, innogy, which is also managing the construction of the project, was the Diamond Sponsor of this year’s Offshore Wind Connections 2019, and has been a supporter of the event over the last few years. innogy is also developing the 1,400MW Sofia offshore wind farm off the east coast near Teesside, and is one of the world’s longest service and leading offshore wind companies.
Mark O’Reilly, Team Humber’s CEO, said: “We are delighted to have the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm onboard as members of THMA. Our engagement with them started way back in 2012 during the early planning stages of the wind farm and now we look forward to working with them to open up supply chain opportunities for our members and partners. ”
Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm will be located in the Greater Wash strategic area, approximately 20 miles off the coast of Lincolnshire and 28 miles from the coast of north Norfolk. It will comprise 90 MHI Vestas v164-9.5 MW turbines with a maximum installed capacity of 857 MW.
